• Data vs Video: What Each Tells You

  Data tells you what happened and how often — shot locations, pass networks, pressures per 90. Video tells you why it happened — the run that created the shot, the body shape that let a pass through. Good analysis moves between the two: let the data flag the pattern, then use video to confirm the mechanism before you present it as a finding.

• Building a Pre-Match Report

  A usable pre-match report answers three questions in order: how does the opponent create chances, how do they concede them, and what does that mean for our XI on the day. Keep it to one page of clips and a page of notes — coaches and players retain three or four key points, not twenty.

• Coding Events Consistently

  Whatever tagging system you use, define your categories before kickoff and never redefine them mid-match — a 'pressure' tagged inconsistently makes the whole dataset unusable for comparison. Write your definitions down once and reuse them every match so trends across a season stay valid.
